Principals Weekly Update

Weekly Vlog Update

Hello everyone, welcome to this week’s vlog.

This week we filmed part of the vlog in a Year 12 maths lesson as our assembly theme focused on Pi Day, which takes place each year on 14 March. It was a great opportunity to celebrate mathematics across the school and highlight the importance of developing confidence and curiosity in the subject.

Celebrating Pi Day

Our Year 12 students in this lesson achieved strong results in their GCSE mathematics and have chosen to continue the subject at A Level. Mathematics at this level is challenging but it also develops valuable skills such as problem solving, logical reasoning and perseverance.

At Uxbridge High School we want students to understand that maths is not simply a subject where you are either “good” or “not good”. With determination, practice and support, every student can improve and build confidence in their abilities. Events such as Pi Day help us celebrate maths and encourage students to engage with the subject in a positive way.

Miss Jain, Acting Curriculum Lead for maths, also spoke in the vlog about how the department works to make lessons engaging and accessible for all students. The team focuses on building, not only exam success, but also the wider skills students will need in everyday life.

One example of this is the GCSE Maths Help Desk, where Year 12 mathematics students support Year 11 students with revision and key topics. This collaborative approach allows students to learn from each other while building confidence and understanding.

Attendance Matters

As mentioned in previous updates, we continue to focus strongly on attendance. Being in school every day ensures that students do not miss important learning opportunities or the many enrichment events taking place across the school.

Even a small number of absences can make learning more difficult, as students miss key explanations and discussions in lessons. We therefore encourage all students to attend school every day and to make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Your continued support as parents and carers plays a vital role in helping students maintain strong attendance and develop positive habits that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

Recognising and Celebrating Success

We are also approaching the end of the half term, which means our larger rewards events will soon be taking place. While these events celebrate many students across the school, we believe that recognising success should happen every day.

Students are regularly rewarded for demonstrating our STAR behaviours, attending school consistently and working hard in lessons. Many students also receive Principal Postcards, which include a fast-track lunch pass as recognition for consistently positive contributions in their lessons.

Celebrating these everyday successes helps build the positive habits that lead to long-term achievement.

Looking Ahead

It has been another busy and engaging week at Uxbridge High School, and it has been wonderful to see students celebrating mathematics while continuing to work hard in their lessons.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We wish you a wonderful weekend and look forward to sharing more updates in next week’s vlog.
