SSC

The student has a basic understanding of the different engineering disciplines. Continuous prompting needed for practical, theoretical work.

SSB

The student has a basic understanding of the different engineering disciplines and simple understanding of applications that link with an engineering context. Has some communication of broader engineering knowledge areas.

SSA

The student has a basic understanding of the different engineering disciplines and understanding of applications that link with an engineering context. Can identify areas that link with an engineering context. Some basic technical drawing skills evident.

L1 Pass

The student can recall all of the major Engineering disciplines and basic materials with some links made with applications. Has been able to show basic CAD and freehand technical drawing skills with some wider engineering theory linked.

L1 Merit

The student can recall all of the major Engineering disciplines with clear links made with materials and applications. Some evidence shown in understanding Health and Safety in Engineering and making appropriate links. Has been able to show basic CAD and freehand technical drawing skills with some wider engineering theory linked.

L1 Dist

The student’s written knowledge and research can show some understanding of wider engineering contexts and their applications. Can show some of the processes used in engineering and describe some of the techniques and systems used.

L2 Pass

The student has a clearly evidenced understanding of a particular engineering context or process with links made to appropriate applications. Can clearly read and produce appropriate technical engineering drawings. Can use relevant maths and identify units of measurement within their work.

L2 Merit

The student’s written knowledge and engineering research is consistently accurate and is capable of recognising that practical decisions should link with clear engineering processes. Can justify, evaluate and compare processes, materials and link to clear Health and Safety requirements

L2 Dist

The student effectively controls the communication of the engineering contexts given throughout research and practical work (drawing, manufacturing, testing and evaluation).  A clear understanding of technical engineering knowledge shows a link to real world examples with clear comparative, intellectual mediums of communication used that reference wider engineering issues.
