Post & Prep

Post & Prep is our whole-school homework approach designed to help students remember more, forget less, and arrive in lessons ready to learn.

Students regularly revisit previous learning through Post activities and prepare for future learning through Prep activities. This helps strengthen memory, build confidence, and make connections between past, present, and future learning.

🔴  Red Posts revisit older learning from previous topics, terms, or years, helping students retain important knowledge over time.

🟢  Green Posts revisit recent learning, usually from the last 10–14 days, helping students secure new knowledge before it is forgotten.

🟠  Prep activities introduce key knowledge, vocabulary, and concepts before they are taught in lessons, helping students feel more prepared and confident when encountering new learning.

Post & Prep in Action — English Example

Imagine a Year 9 student is studying The Merchant of Venice.

🔴  Red Post — The student revisits learning from Year 8 about the features of tragedy, helping them recall key ideas such as a tragic flaw, suffering, and downfall.

🟢  Green Post — The student revisits recent learning from their current unit, such as why The Merchant of Venice can be viewed as a tragic comedy and how Shakespeare blends comic and tragic elements throughout the play.

🟠  Prep — The student is introduced to knowledge that will support future learning, such as what Venice was like during Shakespeare's time and how the setting influences the events and themes of the play.

 

Post & Prep in Action — Maths Example

Imagine a Year 8 student is studying Maths.

🔴  Red Post — The student revisits learning from a previous topic, such as fractions, percentages, or ratio, using MathsWatch to strengthen knowledge taught earlier in the year.

🟢  Green Post — The student revisits recent learning from their current unit, practising skills and methods through targeted MathsWatch tasks.

🟠  Prep — The student is introduced to knowledge and methods that will be explored in upcoming lessons, helping them arrive in class with some familiarity and confidence.

In Maths, students complete Post activities through MathsWatch, an online platform that provides personalised practice and retrieval opportunities. Prep activities introduce methods and concepts that will be explored in future lessons.
