SMSC in Music
The music curriculum area's SMSC audit identifies opportunities for development in schemes of work.
Opportunities for SMSC development includes music performances during events such as the Uxbridge High Awards Evening; Open Evening; Christmas Concert; Performing and Visual Arts’ Evening; Year 7 singing assemblies; end of term assemblies and performance events of exam work at KS4 and KS5.
Students also participate in the wider community, e.g. ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ event in Uxbridge. In all year groups peripatetic music staff provide additional individual/group lessons in strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, guitar, Indian instruments and singing. The provision of Indian instrumental tuition promotes respect for cultural and ethnic diversity. We work in partnership with the Hillingdon Music Education Hub and our music scholarship students benefit from additional participation in various orchestras, bands and choirs during the Saturday Music School, based at Uxbridge High School.
