The maths curriculum area is located in our Lancaster Building.  It benefits from 8 state of the art classrooms and space for 60 people to do private study in the break out areas.  There are 8 full-time members of staff.

The mathematics curriculum area at Uxbridge high school is enthusiastic, dynamic and successful. All members of our department are committed to ensuring that all students enjoy mathematics and achieve their full potential.

Year 7 and 8 students will be grouped according to ability and will be assessed regularly throughout the year.

The curriculum covers all areas of mathematics. These include:

  • Using and Applying Mathematics
  • Number and Algebra
  • Geometry and Measure
  • Statistics

Enrichment tasks and functional skills problems are incorporated into our lessons, in order to prepare students for the Key Stage 4 curriculum. Students will follow a structured programme where more time is spent on topics to gain fluency of core skills and a deeper understanding of mathematics.

Students will start the Key Stage 4 curriculum at the beginning of year 9 and will be grouped according to ability. Students are placed in sets according to their Key Stage 2 result, the progress made in Key Stage 3 and their target grade.

The curriculum covers all areas of mathematics. These include:

  • Using and Applying Mathematics
  • Number and Algebra
  • Geometry and Measure
  • Statistics

At Key Stage 5 we also follow the Edexcel specification where students study Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics.

extra curricular

Throughout the year we have numerous students from all year groups who take part in the UK Mathematics Challenge and Team challenges. We also take part in Count On Us Challenge run by the Mayor's fund for London. During the week we hold extra sessions called 'MathsAid' for extra support and 'MathsMastery' which focus on mastering exam questions as well as Homework club which is a space for students to be able to do their Hegarty maths homework.
