GCSE Grade Descriptors

The student can demonstrate, with outstanding precision, control and fluency, an extensive range of appropriate skills and techniques in exceptionally complex and challenging activities, working at an extremely high intensity for the duration. The student can complete a 30-minute run. Has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the components of fitness, principles of training and effects of exercise and how these factors can improve performance. The student can evaluate own and others’ performances and give detailed feedback using technical and tactical advice as to how changes of strategies, skills, tactics, techniques and fitness can affect the quality and outcome of the performance. The student can plan and lead a safe and effective coaching session.

The student can demonstrate, with consistent precision, control and fluency, an extensive range of appropriate skills and techniques in very challenging activities when working at a high intensity. The student can complete a 20-minute run. Has knowledge of different training methods and can give specific and accurate feedback to performers sporting needs. The student can critically evaluate the quality of own and others’ tactics and skills when performing across many different activities. The student can display excellent understanding and suggest ways how skills, strategies and tactics can affect the quality of performance. I can lead others in activities/warm - ups and be able to individually set up skills practices and enhance student’s learning.

The student can demonstrate, with precision, control and fluency, an extensive range of appropriate skills and techniques in challenging activities. Consistently makes effective decisions and can apply a range of ideas, solutions and tactics in challenging activities when working at a high intensity. The student can complete a 15-minute run, and can accurately explain the advantages of following an active and healthy lifestyle on physical, mental and social wellbeing. The student can lead and officiate matches showing a good understanding of the rules. The student can analyse performance in order to improve skills, techniques and/or fitness levels.

The student can demonstrate, with consistent accuracy and success, a range of appropriate skills and techniques in challenging activities whilst working at an above moderate intensity. The student can make effective decisions and apply a range of ideas and tactics in challenging activities. The student can complete a 10-minute run, and can identify and describe many of the short term and long-term effects of exercise on own physical mental and social well-being. The student can lead an effective warm up to the whole class and ensure that they are prepared for the physical demands of that lesson. The student is able to identify problems with peers’ or own technique and can give teaching points to correct these mistakes.

The student can demonstrate, with consistent accuracy and success, skills and techniques across a variety of sports in competitive activities whilst working at an above moderate intensity. The student can apply complex ideas and tactics to activities and games. Has a sound knowledge of the importance of taking part in regular physical activity, as well as being able to explain the benefits to the body and mind of regular participation. Has a good knowledge of rules and tactics of several different sports and can give some feedback to the peers’ and teams’ overall performance.

The student can demonstrate, with some accuracy and success, skills and techniques across a variety of sports in competitive activities at an average intensity. The student can apply tactics in competitive activities with success. Understands and can describe how the body adapts and benefits from regular exercise. The student can take responsibility for leading a small group warm up. Has a good knowledge of skills and techniques and this improves own and others’ practical performance.

The student can demonstrate, with some accuracy and success, skills and techniques across a variety of activities in high pressured practices at an average intensity. The student can apply tactics across a variety of activities with some success, and can explain how the body reacts during exercise and this helps confidence when taking responsibility for leading a warm up to a partner. The student can identify and describe tactics in some sporting activities. Has knowledge of techniques which helps to improve own performance and give feedback to others about their performance.

The student can demonstrate, with some accuracy and success, skills and techniques across a variety of activities in moderately pressured practices at a low intensity. The student can apply tactics with some success, and can lead an effective self-led warm up identifying most major muscles in the body which will prepare for physical activity. The student can describe and explain some skills and rules in some sports and understands techniques, helping to analyse and improve own performance.

The student can demonstrate, with some accuracy and success, skills and techniques in passive practices. The student can apply basic tactics in passive practices and maintain a low intensity during practice, and can identify some muscles in a warm up and some reasons on why completing a warm up is needed. The student can describe and explain skills and rules in some sports, and has some understanding of techniques and starts to reflect on own performance.

SSA 

The student is working towards demonstrating some level of technical accuracy, precision, control and fluency when performing basic skills. Understands the first two parts of a warm up and can carry these out within a group whilst suggesting appropriate exercises to use ensuring to increase heart rate to an appropriate level and that body is prepared for physical activity.

SSB 

The student is working towards demonstrating some level of technical accuracy, with some precision, control and fluency when performing basic skills. Understands the first two parts of a warm up and can carry these out within a group.

SSC 

The student is working towards performing skills and techniques. The student can identify the first two parts of a warm up.
