As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s LPN we were incredibly lucky to be invited to be guests at the celebrations for Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary. The RSC and BBC worked together to put some of the best performers in the country on the RSC stage, celebrating the variety of ways Shakespeare is still being performed and enjoyed.
We spent the full day in Stratford-upon-Avon enjoying the celebrations that were taking place in the town Shakespeare was born and where he is buried. We watched the annual birthday parade, watched an outdoor Acrobatic Performance of Shakespeare’s plays and had a picnic next to the River Avon before taking our seats for the show. The performance included performances from Judi Dench, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren, Tim Minchin, David Tennant, the Royal Ballet and the English National Opera.
We were so proud to be part of the audience that also included HRH Prince Charles and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall. It was a very special occasion and a night to remember for the UHS students and staff involved.
