Weekly Update

Good morning to all our esteemed students, teachers and parents,

It was a delightful experience visiting the bustling kitchen of our Year 10 hospitality and catering class. The aroma of delicious stir-fried dishes filled the air, showcasing the hard work and talent of our students. It's heartening to witness the diverse facets of our school, each brimming with creativity and dedication.

This week, I'm excited to discuss three pivotal themes: aspirations, effort and attitude, and the significance of reading.

1. Aspirations: Dreaming Big and Achieving More

Our school is a cradle of ambition and dreams. Last week, I had the privilege of accompanying ten exemplary Year 7 students to 10 Downing Street, thanks to an initiative by Ashata Mera, Rishi Sunak's wife. Regardless of political views, this remarkable programme offers an invaluable opportunity for our youth to broaden their horizons. The message was clear and inspiring: "If you can see it and you can dream it, you can be it." Our students returned, not just with memories, but with experiences to elevate their peers' aspirations. The coding lessons they attended are now part of our Year 7 curriculum, a testament to the ripple effect of such enriching experiences.

Celebrating academic ambition, eight of our students secured interviews for Oxbridge, with one already receiving an offer from Oxford University. This achievement is not just a personal triumph but a beacon of motivation for all students, affirming that their aspirations, be it in academia, culinary arts, music or sports, can find roots and wings within our school walls.

2. Attitude: The Power of Positivity

In a world swirling with challenges, maintaining a positive attitude is the keel that steadies our ship. We encourage our staff and students to embrace each day with optimism. Our commitment is to inject positivity into every classroom, ensuring that our students feel uplifted and empowered. Remember, while we may not have control over every circumstance, we can always control our attitude towards it.

3. Reading: The Gateway to Knowledge and Success

The path to fulfilling aspirations is paved with words and knowledge. Proficiency in reading and writing is fundamental, and we are dedicated to nurturing these skills in every student. We encourage reading at school and home, with a rich variety of books and resources like Bedrock and our e-platforms. Discovering a book that captivates your imagination is a joy unparalleled, and we urge every student to embark on this journey of exploration and growth.

As we wrap up this week's update, let's extend our best wishes to our Year 10 students as they put the finishing touches on their culinary creations. May your weekend be as enriching and fulfilling as the week has been. Looking forward to more shared moments of inspiration and achievement.

Thank you for your attention, and I wish you all a wonderful weekend. May the days ahead be filled with warmth and joy.

Take care,

Louisa Seymour
