Weekly Update 15/12/2023

Dear parents, carers and students,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to update you on recent events and activities at our school. This week I'm thrilled to share the latest updates and achievements from Uxbridge High School.

1. History Curriculum Highlights:

In the heart of our historical journey, we observed a Year 7 class studying independently, a unique experience that allows for live feedback and pointers towards their DPR objectives. Please take a moment to chat with your young learners about this process—it's an integral part of their academic growth.

Miss Dhillon (Head of English) has been leading inspiring assemblies on "Books You Love," emphasising the crucial role of literature in students' success and broader reading experiences. As we explore the curriculum, it's worth mentioning the recent passing of the renowned poet Benjamin Zephaniah. His legacy continues to inspire many to fall in love with poetry and English literature.

2. Upcoming Events:

As we approach the end of the term, get ready for a flurry of exciting events! Next week, the school is buzzing with the Christmas spirit. Don't forget to book your Christmas lunch on Parent Pay—it's a festive feast not to be missed. On the day, we encourage all students to don their most spirited jumpers, contributing to a joyful atmosphere and raising funds for Save the Children.

The Winter Showcase is on the horizon, promising a captivating display of our talented young performers. Join us on Tuesday after school for a celebration of the remarkable achievements across the school. Your presence will undoubtedly make it a memorable occasion.

3. Emphasizing the Basics:

A gentle reminder to support us in reinforcing the importance of being brilliant at the basics. Turning up in the correct uniform, on time, and with the necessary equipment ensures a focused and engaging learning environment. Your support at home in emphasizing these basics has been instrumental in creating a conducive atmosphere for learning.

4. Message from Miss Latunji Jones:

Now, let's hear a few words from Miss Latunji Jones, Head of year 10 and esteemed history teacher:

"Hello everyone! As we navigate the intriguing topic of History, I invite parents to ask our Year 10 students about their learning, particularly their exploration of the Silk Road. Your engagement with their educational journey is invaluable. We're also celebrating achievements, so stay tuned for a special assembly recognizing the hard work of all year groups. I wish you all a delightful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Look out for the upcoming Year 10 GCSE information video, and let's stay connected in the exciting weeks ahead!"

As we wrap up this week, let's continue to encourage our students to be brilliant at the basics. We appreciate your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you at the same time and place next week.

As always, I am grateful for your continued support. Stay tuned for more exciting updates, and until next week, have a wonderful weekend!

Take care,

Louisa Seymour
