Borough Cross Country Championships

Thirty students represented Uxbridge High School in the borough cross country championships, held at Vyners School playing fields on Wednesday 21st November. Students from Years 7, 8 & 9 took on the challenging course in the cold, but thankfully dry conditions.

Competing against thirteen other schools, the morning saw the Year 7 boys start things off, with the Year 8 and 9 race following and finally the Year 10-13 senior race. Our students did themselves proud, particularly the Year 7s who were competing for the first time. A number of the Year 7s finished in the top twenty runners, which was particularly good to see. Our star of the morning was Abdi Hamud who blitzed the field in the Year 8 & 9 race, winning the two mile event by nearly a minute. Abdi goes through to represent Hillingdon at the Middlesex schools’ championships in January 2019.

The girls competed in the afternoon’s races, with another very good turnout from schools across the borough. The standard was high, meaning the challenge was great, but our Year 7s worked hard to finish the 1.5 mile course, with a few finishing in the top 30. The Year 8 & 9 race saw a top 20 finish for three UHS students, another terrific achievement! We now look forward to the Middlesex championships next year, where Abdi stands a good chance of finishing on the podium.
