RE
The department aims to help students understand, appreciate and evaluate the five major religions in this country. Emphasis is placed on valuing and celebrating each others differences, given the rich diversity of cultures and faiths within the school community.
In Year 7 topics covered include: Skills for Life; Festivals of Light; the Bible and Old Testament characters; Symbols and Pilgrimage. Examples of Years 8 and 9 topics include: the Life and Work of Jesus and Rites of Passage.
Some groups follow a GCSE short course entitled ‘Religion and Life’. Sixth Form students enjoy a one day RE conference during the Autumn term. Guest speakers have made these days particularly meaningful and thought provoking.
As students mature, more time is given to explore life and world issues as they occur in our society. Empathy skills, greater tolerance and respect are fundamental to our philosophy.
