Chief Executive of Teach First visits Uxbridge High

On Thursday 12 January Uxbridge High School was pleased and proud to host a visit by Brett Wigdortz (CEO) and Anesta Broad (Associate Director) of the prestigious charitable organisation, Teach First.

In 2012 Teach First celebrates its first ten years of existence and UHS has been a key player since its inception.  Brett’s visit was to thank the school for all its support.

Teach First addresses educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers and leaders in all fields.  Like Uxbridge High School, Teach First has recently been recognised by Ofsted as Outstanding.

Brett was able to meet with Peter Lang (Principal) and observe some lessons taught by Teach First colleagues, meet and speak to a wide range of students and then run a session with UHS Teach First cohort of teachers and other teaching staff.

Will Wright, a Teach First graduate with a top degree from Warwick University, who is now Curriculum Leader for Maths, said “It was a very proud moment  hearing Brett talk about how much some schools, especially Uxbridge High School, have improved over the last 10 years, and showing him we were part of that was great for the school.”

Peter Lang, Principal said “we were delighted that Brett and Anesta personally took the time to come and visit us here at UHS and meet with our students and staff.  Teach First has had a significant impact in raising attainment in schools across the country and we are proud to be seen by Teach First as an exemplar school”.

Agnès de Mauroy, a Modern Foreign Languages Teacher, in her first year at the school, said “My year 8 Spanish group were really excited to meet such an important visitor and had the chance to share with him their enthusiasm for Spanish and to show him what we had learned.“

Jamilah Ssenyonjo, a Year 7 student, said “We have great teachers at Uxbridge High School and great teachers make great schools.”
