Teaching Awards 2011

The Prime Minister, David Cameron hosted a reception at Downing Street to celebrate excellence in education and Peter Lang, Principal of Uxbridge High School, was honoured to be invited to attend.

Peter was selected as he was personally commended in the Headteacher of the Year Category in the South East Region, as well as to represent the school’s Guidance and Inclusion Team who were the winners of the team of the year in the South East region.  Peter said “I was honoured and very proud to be invited to Downing Street and to meet and speak directly to David Cameron, the Prime Minister.  It was a red letter day for Uxbridge High School.  He personally thanked me and all staff at Uxbridge High School for all of our hard work and congratulated all staff and students for the school’s achievements.”

The 2011 Pearson Teaching Awards took place on Sunday 30th October at a star-studded ceremony celebrating excellence in education. Hosted by Lenny Henry, celebrity presenters included Hollywood star Minnie Driver, legendary fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood, theatre director Sir Trevor Nunn, comedian Al Murray and ‘Downton Abbey’ actress Elizabeth McGovern.    

UK and regional winners from 2011 and 2010 were invited to the reception hosted by the Prime Minister on Wednesday 2 November.  Prime Minister, David Cameron said, “It’s incredibly encouraging to know that over 22,000 teachers from across the UK are thought of so highly by their pupils, colleagues and local community that they were nominated for a Teaching
