Borough Cricket Champions

In a game that was in fact the Year 10 Borough final of 2014, the now Year 11s finally played their borough cricket final against Vyners on Wednesday 15th April 2015.

On the warmest day of year so far, the team; led by Zaki Azam, were well and truly up for what was going to be a tough contest.

Vyners won the toss and decided to put UHS in to bat. A decision they no doubt regretted, with Bilal Mohammad starting confidently. Bilal struck a number of 4s and 6s on his way to 27 not out. With players having to retire at 25, Bilal was replaced by Zaki Azam who continued to plunder the boundaries.  Although Ahmer Alam was caught out for 17, Zaki took the score past 70 before he, like Bilal, had to retire having made 29. With two new batsmen at the crease, UHS rolled on past 100, finishing their innings on 127 runs from 15 overs. Shann Assi being the third batsmen to make 25.

With such a big total to chase, Vyners didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing two early wickets. A surge in the scoring rate, not helped by the number of wides being bowled, had UHS slightly concerned as Vyners passed 50 for the loss of two wickets. However, a clever bowling change by the captain brought dividends, with Aathithan Luckeeswaran getting three wickets in one over! From there the result was never in doubt, as although Vyners managed to score a few more runs, they finished on 100 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

So it was a 27 run win for UHS and the title of Borough Champions in their last ever game for the school. Well done boys!
