The Lancaster Building

September 2009 started with a number of historic events for Uxbridge High School.
We achieved:
- best ever exam results
- record numbers in our Sixth Form
- continued membership of the Specialist Schools Most Improved Schools Club
and most recently we have been successful in gaining planning permission for a phased development to create a brand new school.
The first phase of this exciting development is a 3 storey building with a purpose built £6m Sixth Form Centre, Study Room and Activity Studio on the ground floor plus
16 innovative teaching spaces on the upper floors with state-of-the-art ICT and learning facilities
Features for this and future phases include:
- renewable energy
- a 6kw wind turbine
- photo voltaic panels
- green living walls to the east and west elevations (as illustrated in the artist’s impression above)
- Secure cycle storage for over 100 bicycles
- Community facilities
- a healthy living centre
- 4 court sports hall
Work was completed in June 2009 and the opening ceremony of the Lancaster Building was held on 8th July 2009.
Other buildings will be replaced in a phased redevelopment of the school. The original Edwardian/Victorian building will be fully refurbished and will be the only building to
be retained.
For the past three years the School has been working with stakeholders, architects, educationalists, planners and the government to develop a strategic approach for Uxbridge High School to become a school for the 21st Century.
